Mission San Antonio de Valero was established in 1718 and became the place where 189 defenders fell after repeated attacks from General Santa Anna's Mexican army on March 6, 1836. The city has grown up around it and the Alamo is now located in the heart of San Antonio on the east side of Alamo Plaza. Hours are 9am - 5:50 pm Monday through Saturday, and 10am to 5:30 pm Sunday.
